Apple Scones Perfect for Fall!

For the first time, our apple trees have really produced enough to do multiple baked items with. I love scones. What better way to find yet another use for our apple crop than scones! These Apple Scones were the perfect fit and a great fall type breakfast or dessert. Eating an Apple Scone just fits on a fall day with a nice cup of coffee. :)

Apple Scones
1 medium apple (finely chopped)
1/3 cup butter
3 cups whole wheat flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp cinnamon
1/3 cup raw sugar
1 egg beaten
2/3 cup milk, plus 2 Tbs for glazing

Step One:
Heat the chopped apple and 2 Tbs butter in a sauce pan till apples tender.

Step Two:
Use your Bosch whips to cut remaining butter into whole wheat flour, 1/2 tsp cinnamon, and sugar. Add cooked apples and egg to flour mixture. Slowly stir in milk till makes a soft dough. A side note: This is another reason I love my Bosch Universal Mixer. It is my servant for the kitchen. I no longer take time to cut butter into flour but let my Bosch Mixer do the job! Use your Bosch Mixer to the max. Let it be your work horse for your baking and cooking job.

Step Three:
Flour counter and roll dough out to 1" thick. Cut with biscuit cutter. Brush with milk and sprinkle cinnamon/sugar over each Apple Scone. Bake on greased stainless steel cookie sheet at `350 degrees for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.

  1. I forgot the baking powder, so I got hockey pucks! It seems like they could use some salt.

  2. You definitely need baking powder! :) Yes, you could put salt to the scone but that would be to the flavor desire of the cook. I would add 1/2 tsp of salt, IF I were going to add it to the recipe. :)

Try the scones again with baking powder. They really do taste good.

  3. What speed do you use to cut in your butter?

  4. I have my mixer on speed 1. The goal is to simply cut the butter into the flour. I use my Bosch mixer to do all my menial tasks in the kitchen! This is just one more job that I let the mixer do for me. :)
