Biscuit Variations!

This is another simple technique to completely change your basic biscuit recipe and add pizazz to the meal. Since I have featured different soups this month, it was only natural to change the breads with the soup without a lot of fuss!

Here is the Basic Biscuit Recipe:
2 cups whole wheat pastry flour (I used the L'Equip flour sifter to make great flour!)
4 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp soda
3/4 tsp. salt
4 Tbs. butter
1 cup milk

Mix dry ingredients. Cut butter into flour mixture. Slowly add milk till dough forms.

Simply roll out into rectangle about 1/2" thick. Cut with biscuit cutter. Bake 375 degrees for 10 min. or until golden brown.

Now for the variations:

Cheese Onion Biscuits
Fold into the biscuit dough:
1 small onion chopped
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Bake as directed above.

Apple Cinnamon Biscuits

Add 1 Tbls honey to biscuit dough.

Knead in:
1/2 fresh apple chopped finely
1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
Follow baking instructions above.

Note from Paula: Apple/cinnamon biscuits are a great sweet treat for morning breakfasts or a tea time biscuit! Yum!
