Ginger Cinnamon Rolls!

Ginger is an ingredient that equates itself with Christmas season. I love ginger and put it into a lot of my baking; but at Christmas time, you will find everyone thinks this is a flavor that should be in baked goods.

You can make the typical cinnamon roll turn festive with a few simple ingredients...GINGER being the main Christmas theme ingredient! Can I say YUM...these are you can't eat just one cinnamon roll. It will add a new 'twist' to your Christmas breakfast table. :)

I took this recipe from the cookbook Sensible Cooking* and then adapted it with a few spices...ginger and cinnamon adding molasses. You will find that most ginger recipes have molasses in the baked good as well.

Ginger Cinnamon Rolls
8 cups whole hard white wheat
2 tsp ground ginger
1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
1 cup warm milk
1/2 cup honey
1/4 cup molasses
1 cup butter room temperature
7 large eggs room temperature
4 Tbs SAF Yeast

Filling:
1/4-1/2 melted butter
1 1/2 tsp ground ginger
2 tsp cinnamon
1 cup raw sugar

Step One:
In your Bosch mixer, mix warm milk, yeast, honey, molasses, room 1 cup of temperature butter and room temperature eggs. Add dry ingredients and knead 6 minutes.

Step Two:
Roll out dough on greased surface in a 1/4" thick rectangle. Spread butter over entire surface. Sprinkle with the sugar filling mixture.

The pizza roller works wonderfully in making the dough into a rectangle.

Spread with melted butter.

Sprinkle the raw sugar, ginger and cinnamon mixture,

Use dental floss to cut your cinnamon rolls. Works like a charm everytime!!

Step Three:
Let rise and bake 350 degrees 25 minutes or until golden brown.
Drizzle with icing (1 cup powder sugar, 1 tsp vanilla, 1 Tbls maple syrup and water to make the powder sugar drizzle.)

Fix yourself a nice cup of coffee. These ginger cinnamon rolls are great for dunking! I think I indulged a little too much...you think? :)

Something else you can do with this creation is simply making it into a jelly roll. I rolled this and put it in a bread pan to rise. It makes a beautiful presentation and is still as good as the individual cinnamon rolls!
