Meaningless Numbers? No! (Part 1)

Do you ever begin to feel lost like you are just another number in the mass of humanity? Do you think that your mark in time of history is insignificant? Your life has just become a mundane routine with no impact on the world?

Well I am sure the children of Israel thought it was very insignificant how their mass of humanity walked through the wilderness. As they plodded along in the formation that God had commanded them too, little did they know they were becoming a part of the mosaic to picture the cross.

What am I suggesting? Have you ever read through the book of Numbers in the Bible and wondered why God was so exacting in the number of each tribe and why He told them to walk in a certain order? So let me delve into a quick numbering and where they were to be positioned...

Tribe of Reuben 46,500; camp on south side
Tribe of Simeon 59,300; camp on south side
Tribe of Gad 45,650; camp on south side
Tribe of Judah 74,600; camp on East side
Tribe of Issachar 54,400; camp on East side
Tribe of Zebulun 57,400; camp on East side
Tribe of Ephraim 40,500; camp on west side
Tribe of Manasseh 32,200; camp on west side
Tribe of Benjamin 35,400; camp on west side
Tribe of Dan 62,700; camp on north side
Tribe of Asher 41,500; camp on north side
Tribe of Naphtali 53,400; camp on north side
Tribe of Levi unnumbered camp in the middle

If you add the numbers to the location, you will find that an aerial view of the children of Israel forms a cross with the tribe of Levi in the center! They had no clue that they were depicting the cross and the salvation of the world that would come through the cross of Christ.

We, too, have no idea how we will have fully impacted the world nor how we showed Christ in our daily lives till we get that aerial view of our lives when we are in heaven.

With this said, don't be weary in well-doing. Keep running the race that is set before you, knowing that those who have given their heart to Jesus our King will receive the joy of seeing their works give testimony to Him!

Check back to read Part 2 in the seemingly meaningless numbers...
