I love flat bread sandwiches. The problem is most places that serve the flat bread sandwich is that it is white bread made into flat bread! Not as tasty or healthy. I have been asked by several, 'how do you make whole wheat flat bread?' Here you go! This is the fast and easy flat bread. You can change this recipe by grilling the bread for official flat bread, but I am all about fast and easy. Baking it in the oven is soooo much easier. All done in one swoop. Enjoy a whole wheat flat bread sandwich just like I do!
1 cup hot water
2 Tbs olive oil
1 Tbs salt
2 Tbs honey
3 cups whole white wheat flour
2 Tbs SAF yeast
1 Tbs rosemary topping*
Step One:
Place all ingredients except topping* in your Bosch Universal Mixer. Knead 6 minutes.
Step Two:
Roll out thinly on stainless steel jelly roll sheet. Brush with oil. Bake 400 degrees for 8-10 minutes or until golden brown. Remember, you could grill this bread to have the official flat bread flavor rather than baking. I just think it is easier to bake.
*Toppings...you can use rosemary, chopped or sliced onions; dill weed, granulated garlic; grated Parmesan cheese; or whatever topping suits your fancy and taste buds!
Note from Paula: I didn't roll the bread dough out thin as I wanted a thicker 'flat bread.' If you roll the dough out thinner, you will have the typical flat bread; AND if you grill it you will even have a more authentic flat bread.
